The Airwaybill is a key document in air cargo transport, acting as a receipt for the cargo and a contract between the shipper and the airline. It contains information about the cargo's origin, destination, and other shipping details.
Shipping rates depend on several factors, including the weight, size, destination, and type of goods being shipped. At Uganda Airlines, we typically charge based on volumetric weight or actual weight (whichever is higher),
along with additional surcharges for fuel, security, and destination charges where applicable.
Rates also depend on service level, for example, express or standard shipping.
Contents of the shipment, number of pieces, weight, dimensions, (for general cargo) plus origin and destination airports in addition to any other related information that we may ask for from you.
We transport a wide range of cargo, including the following types:
Each country, whether as the origin or destination, has specific document requirements for exporting and importing various types of cargo.
It is the responsibility of the shipper to determine the necessary documents for their consignment’s export and import. However, common documents for air cargo include:
We currently operate a fleet of CRJ-900, A320, and A330-800 aircraft, each with specific weight and size restrictions. Common weight limits for a single shipment typically range from 100 to 150 kg (220 to 330 lbs) for standard cargo. Large or oversized shipments may require special arrangements. For example, cargo aircraft can accommodate larger shipments with special handling needs.
The following dimensions apply to our current fleet:
Aircraft | Dimension | Metric (cm) | Imperial (inches) |
---|---|---|---|
CRJ-900 | Width | 75 cm | 29.25 in |
Height | 90 cm | 35.43 in | |
A330-800 | Length | 228 cm | 89 in |
Height | 163 cm | 64 in |
Cargo movement is based on confirmed bookings and airline schedules. However, certain operational factors may cause delays in delivery, such as operational disruptions and capacity constraints, among others.
Note: Please always have your bookings confirmed by our reservations team prior to uplift.
Uganda Airlines does not cover consignment insurance.
It is advisable to purchase cargo insurance to protect against risks related to airfreight transportation. You should confirm the terms and conditions of coverage with your provider.
Volumetric weight or dimensional weight is calculated using the formula below:
Volumetric Weight (kg) = (Length (cm) × Width (cm) × Height (cm)) / 6000
If the volumetric weight exceeds the actual weight, it will be used for pricing purposes. This formula ensures that larger but lighter items are charged based on the space they occupy on our aircraft.
Note: The airline shall charge either the actual net weight or the volumetric weight of your shipment, whichever is higher.
In the unfortunate event that your cargo is damaged or lost, you will need to file a claims report as per the airline's claims policy.
